Buffalo, N.Y.: Buffalo Niagara International Airport has regained normalcy following a power outage in the early hours of Wednesday, July 5, 2023. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) confirmed that power was restored after causing delays that impacted nearly all flights at the airport.

The outage occurred at 3 a.m. and was due to a problem with a transformer. The airport managed to operate using backup generators during the outage. Kelly Khatib, Communications Manager for NFTA, provided an update 30 minutes before power was restored.

Travelers were advised to contact their airlines to check for potential delays or cancellations. Airlines had to operate manually during outages, resulting in long lines at baggage check counters. A tweet from Krizia Williams showed travelers celebrating as the lights returned.

The airport usually operates, and travelers should contact their airlines for flight updates.
